Valero Energy has announced it will permanently shut down its oil refining plant in Delaware City.

The closure of the 210,000 barrel a day plant will supposedly reduce operating expenses by $450 million, but it will also mean the loss of jobs for 550 people.

Valero recently closed its Aruba refinery indefinitely.

Valero has claimed the Delaware City refinery was losing the company $1 million a day, due to oil margins being squeezed.
