GLASGOW, Scotland - In an apology to customers issued on Twitter, the Royal Bank of Scotland acknowledged on Friday that it had been hit by technical issues.

The technical issues affecting the lender led to a massive outage that affected its online and mobile banking services.

The Royal Bank of Scotland, which became the latest U.K. lender to suffer tech problems on Friday, also pointed out that the outage affected its most highly rated brand among customers - NatWest.

The lender said that it was working to fix issues with its online and mobile banking services.

However, the Royal Bank of Scotland pointed out in its statement that its telephone banking and ATMs were working as normal.

Several customers voiced their concerns related to the bank's service outage and problems they were facing on social media pages, with many customers tweeting directly to the bank asking about when the services would be restored.

According to reports, RBS became the fourth financial services firm this week to suffer an outage.

Earlier in the week, Barclays, the Co-operative Bank and fintech Cashplus have all issued seperate apologies to customers for disruptions to their services.
