BEIJING, July 31 (Xinhua) -- Action film "Raging Fire," starring Hong Kong action actor Donnie Yen, dominated the Chinese mainland box office on its debut on Friday, the China Movie Data Information Network reported on Saturday.
Focusing on a story about police hunt for a gang of drug traffickers, the film ended its first day of screening with daily earnings of nearly 58.3 million yuan (about 9 million U.S. dollars), accounting for nearly 40 percent of the day's total.
Following its lead was romantic comedy "Upcoming Summer." It generated more than 51.7 million yuan on Friday.
Coming in third was animated film "White Snake 2: The Tribulation of the Green Snake," the latest cinematic production centered on the ancient Chinese legend of the White Snake. The film pocketed more than 16.8 million yuan on the eighth day since its debut.
